Why We Give
Scripture teaches us to put Christ first in every area of our lives. As Christ-followers, giving cheerfully and sacrificially of our finances is a viable part of worship. We are called to manage the resources God has blessed us with to be a blessing to others. Our purpose in this life is about a greater cause than accruing personal wealth or posessions, but to manage God’s resources to make a difference in lives.
Scripture teaches us three types of financial giving:
The Faith gift.
Scripture teaches that everything we have is God’s. We don’t own it, we manage it. But, he does expect us to bring 10% of our income to the local church. We trust him by faith and act on that trust.
The Generous Gift.
Scripture also teaches of moments people went beyond the 10% and gave out of generosity more than was expected.
The Sacrificial Gift.
Finally, Scripture teaches of moments in life when we are moved to sacrificially give beyond 10% and even more than simply generous. We sacrifice ourselves to use our resources to further the mission of the movment God has called us to fund.
